New Delhi: India’s Nikhat Zareen won the gold medal in the 52 kg flyweight at the ongoing World Boxing Championships in Istanbul (Turkey). Zareen defeated Jitpong of Thailand 5-0 in the final to become the world champion.
26-year-old Nikhat Zareen player of Telangana is the fifth Indian woman boxer to become a world champion. MC Mary Kom had won the gold medal at the World Championships six times before and Sarita Devi, RL Jenny and KC Lekha once each. Nikhat Zareen won the Junior World Championship in 2011.
