Colombo: Former Sri Lankan President Gotabaya Rajapaksa returned to Colombo from Thailand on Friday and was received at the Bhandranayake airport.
Rajapaksa had fled abroad during months of protests demanding his resignation due to the unprecedented economic crisis in the country.
He was out of the country for 51 days. Rajapaksa arrived in Colombo via Singapore from Bangkok amid tight security. He returned to the country by Singapore Airlines at 11.30 pm last night.
