World renowned Punjabi folk singers Gurmeet Bawa dies at 77

Chandigarh: World renowned Punjabi folk singer Gurmeet Bawa left for heavenly abode after suffering from a prolonged illness.

She was 77-year-old and was record holder of longest heck of 45 seconds.

Gurmeet Bawa is the first singer to sing on Doordarshan and she had received many National, international awards to uplift the standard of Punjabi language and folk music across the globe.

Following news of her demise, there is a wave of mourning in the music world and Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi also expressed his grief over the death of the prominent singer and said, “Shocked and saddened to hear the news of Gurmeet Bawa Ji’s demise. Her contribution to Punjabi folk music is indelible. My sincere condolences, thoughts & prayers are with her family.”
