Two units of thermal plant in Rupnagar shut down in Punjab

Chandigarh: Two units of the Guru Gobind Singh Super Thermal Plant here were shut down today. Unit No. 6 of the plant closed due to some technical fault at 2.30 a.m. today, while unit no. 5 is said to have been closed this morning by the organizers due to shortage of coal, but the Chief Engineer of the thermal plant Manjit Singh attributed the closure of both the units to a technical problem in the coal feeding system.

He claimed that a team of engineers has been mobilised to restart the closed units.

According to the information collected from the control room of the plant, only six days of coal are left in the coal reserves of the thermal plant Rupnagar.

It may be recalled here that chief minister Bhagwant Mann, during a function to welcome the vehicle carrying coal from the Pachwara mine at the thermal plant Rupnagar, had claimed that the thermal plants of Punjab would no longer be closed due to lack of coal.
