Sikh woman sworn in as Connecticut’s first assistant police chief in US

New York: Manmeet Cologne, 37, a Sikh woman officer of Indian origin, has taken over as assistant police chief in the US state of Connecticut. She has become the first second-ranked top officer of Asian descent in the police department here.

Manmeet has been serving in the New Haven Police Department for 15 years. He took oath of office at a ceremony on Friday.

“Another new precedent has been set,” said Avaliz Ribeiro, chairperson of the Board of Police Commissioners. Manmeet Kolon is a resident of Mumbai.
