New Delhi: Roger Binny has been appointed as the new president of the BCCI. It has been decided in the Annual General Meeting of BCCI.
The Annual General Meeting of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) was held today at the Taj Hotel in Mumbai in which BCCI secretary Jay Shah, incumbent president Sourav Ganguly, vice-president Rajiv Shukla, treasurer Arun Singh Dhumal and former Indian cricketer Roger Binny were also present.
Binny has replaced former India captain Sourav Ganguly. Binny, 67, was the only candidate to file nomination for the post of BCCI president. The election of the next group of office-bearers was only a formality as all were set to be elected unopposed.
Binny, in his recent tenure, was the president of the Karnataka State Cricket Association and will now step down from his position in the state body once he becomes the BCCI president.
The former India medium pacer played a key role in India’s historic win in the 1983 World Cup. He played 8 matches for India during that period and managed to take a total of 18 wickets during this period. Roger was one of the highest wicket-takers in that historic tournament.
