‘Pani Puri’ banned in Nepal’s Kathmandu valley after cholera outbreak

Kathmandu: Pani Puri has been banned in Kathmandu Valley’s Lalitpur Metropolitan City following spike in cholera cases.

Several persons suffering from cholera have been admitted to the hospital. Efforts are being made by the authorities to control the disease. There are apprehensions of cholera outbreak due to contaminated water in many areas but health officials are still unaware of it.

The sale of pani puri and chaats have been banned in Lalitpur adjoining Kathmandu. Lalitpur Metropolitan City said cholera bacteria have been found in the pani puri water. Police are ensuring that these are not sold.

People have been asked to refrain from eating pani puri in crowded places. It is feared that cholera may spread in the Kathmandu Valley as well. Police chief Sitaram said people were being made aware to avoid cholera.
