Migrants once again leave for home fearing lockdown

New Delhi: Fearing that government might impose a complete lockdown like last year, migrants have started returning back to their native states from Gurugram, Punjab and Haryana.

There is a swift rise in COVID-19 across the globe and many restrictions have already been placed to contain the virus spread.

Due to this, there is a panic among migrants as last year situation turned catastrophic when migrants chose to return home on feet, which led to deaths of many people.

Even some people got struck in the national wide lockdown and found it hard to get proper meals, said a Sham Lal a migrant, who has left along with 2000 workers from Gurugram.

Workers including domestic helps, roadside vendors, construction workers or other daily wagers, a majority of migrants, primarily hailing from Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and West Bengal, are seen crowding bus stands and other transit points to leave their worl states to reach home amid threat of a lockdown.

Meanwhile, the panic and the exodus have left shopkeepers owners harried.
