Indore temple tragedy: Death toll rises to 36, Temple trust chairman booked

New Delhi: 36 people lost their lives in the Beleshwar Mahadev Jhulelal temple accident in Indore till Friday morning. A case of culpable homicide not amounting to murder has been registered against the Temple Trust Chairman Sevaram Galani. More than 20 people are currently undergoing treatment.

The rescue operation continued till late in the night. Between 12 and 1.30 am, 16 more bodies were retrieved. Rescue operations resumed on Friday morning. The wall of the temple and the slab of tubewell were broken. Several teams of army and administration were engaged in rescue operations. The body of 53-year-old Sunil was exhumed around 12 noon on Friday.

Members of the Patel community had gathered at a dharamshala near the spot. Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan arrived to meet him on Friday morning. 11 people of Patel community have died in the accident. The office bearers of the society said that the CM should have met the families of those who died here.

Officials had earlier said that the Chief Minister would meet the family and know their pain. The event was later cancelled.
