Indian-origin woman dies in plane crash, daughter in critical condition

New York: An Indian-origin woman was killed and her daughter and pilot instructor were injured when a small plane crashed in the US’ New York region, according to a media report. Roma Gupta, 63, and her daughter Reeva Gupta, 33, were on a small plane on Sunday.

The plane’s pilot reported smoke in the cockpit and crashed shortly afterwards near houses in Long Island.

Roma was killed and Rewa and a 23-year-old pilot instructor were seriously injured, media reports said. The injured have been admitted to the hospital.

Danny Vazman Flight School Attorney Oleh DeKaylo said the pilot had all the necessary certifications and ratings and that two rigorous inspections of the crashed plane had been carried out last week.

The National Transportation Safety Board will investigate to determine the cause of the accident. The Federal Aviation Administration is also investigating the matter.
