4 killed in Bathinda cantonment firing: Punjab Police denies terror attack

Chandigarh: Four soldiers of the artillery unit were killed in firing in the early hours today in the army cantonment here. Details of the matter have been sought by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh.

The incident took place around 4.30 pm at the Officers’ Mess in the cantonment. Soon after the incident, the cantonment was completely sealed. The search operation was going on here till the time of writing the news.

In a statement, the army officials said that it has been ascertained that in the unfortunate incident, four army jawans of an artillery unit succumbed to gunshot injuries sustained during the incident. No other injuries to personnel or loss/damage to property have been reported.

All aspects including the possible case of involvement of an INSAS rifle along with 28 rounds reported missing two days back are being ascertained, the statement said.
