Chandigarh: Weeks before the Punjab Assembly elections, the Enforcement Directorate has arrested Bhupinder Singh alias Honey, a nephew of Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi, from Jalandhar on Friday.
He was booked by the agency in a 2018 illegal sand mining case and raided his houses and offices in connection with money laundering allegations as well recently. ED had reportedly seized Rs 10 crore.
The elections in Punjab are scheduled for February 20 and Honey’s arrest may damage the Congress as opposition have been alleging Channi’s involved in his nephew’s case.
He will be produced before court in Jalandhar today, officials said.
