Chandigarh: The pre-harvest rains in Punjab have left farmers gasping for breath. This will not only delay the harvesting of standing crops in the fields, but those sowing basmati and early crops may also have to face a lot of problems.
At the same time, the rain has also given relief to the people from the heat. The paddy crop has reached most areas of Punjab and the Punjab government has decided to procure it from October 1.
The rains will also affect the grain of the crop and will also delay the harvesting of the standing crop on the verge of being ready in the fields. Apart from this, the sowing of winter crops will also have to be done for a few days. Basmati growers have started bringing basmati to the mandis of Rajpura, Amritsar, Tarn Taran and other areas of Patiala. After this rain, the quality of basmati will also be affected, due to which farmers may have to suffer financial losses.
