Gandhinagar court convicts Asaram Bapu in rape case

Gandhinagar: A court in Gandhinagar on Monday convicted Asaram Bapu in a rape case. Asaram Bapu has been convicted by a Gandhinagar sessions court for raping two surat-based sisters in 2013. Asaram’s son Narayan Sai was also an accused in the case.

Asaram’s wife Lakshmi, daughter Bharti and four female followers – Dhruvben, Nirmala, Jassi and Meera – were also named as accused in the case. All of them were acquitted by the Gandhinagar court. Asaram is currently lodged in Jodhpur jail. Asaram will be sentenced tomorrow. In 2013, two Surat-based sisters had lodged a complaint of rape against Narayan Sai and his father Asaram. The younger sister had said in the complaint that Narayan Sai repeatedly raped her between 2002 and 2005.

According to the girl, she was raped when she was staying at Asaram’s ashram in Surat. At the same time, the elder sister had accused Asaram of rape in the complaint.

The victim said asaram raped her several times at his ashram in Ahmedabad. Both sisters have filed separate complaints against the father-son duo.
