Gambia deaths: Liquid in syrup supplied by Delhi-based firm

Chandigarh: Propylene glycol being used in the syrup being made by Sonipat-based Maiden Pharma was being supplied by a Delhi-based trader, the inquiry report state.

It is suspected that 66 children have died in Gambia due to this syrup. Propylene glycol is a type of liquid that is added to medicines. If it is mixed with diethylene glycol and ethylene glycol, then it can prove to be fatal for the patient.

According to sources, after the raids on the Sonipat-based company, the trader who supplied the liquid has come under the scanner. The Central Drug Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO) and the FDA Haryana have found in the investigation that the purchase bills of propylene glycol did not mention the batch number, name of the manufacturer and date and duration of manufacture (expiry). During the interrogation of the Sonipat-based company, the company, Goyal Pharma Cam, based in Samaypur, Delhi. It’s name has come up. Officials have raided a commercial unit in Delhi.

During the investigation, it has also come to light that Goyal Pharma had taken this liquid from another trader. The company from which it was taken is from South Korea. However, the Delhi-based firm said it did not supply all the liquid to the Sonipat-based company.

Meanwhile, PGI Rohtak has stopped using omeprazole 20 mg, a drug made by Maiden Pharma.
