Excise policy: Arvind Kejriwal appears before CBI office; AAP leaders, workers stage protest

New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal today appeared before the CBI for questioning in connection with the excise policy scam. Officials gave this information. The CBI had on Friday asked Kejriwal to appear before the probe team as a witness on April 16 to answer questions on the information gathered during the probe, the officials said.

Former deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia was arrested on February 26 in connection with the probe into the case. Kejriwal arrived at the CBI headquarters in his car at 11.10 am.

Meanwhile, the Delhi Police have detained several AAP leaders and activists who were protesting outside the CBI headquarters. Those detained by the police include Punjab ministers Brahm Shankar Jimpa, harjot Singh Bains and Aman Arora, besides Punjab Rajya Sabha MP Raghav Chadha, Delhi ministers Kailash Gahlot, Atishi Singh and Saurabh Bhardwaj.

They were protesting against delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal being summoned by the CBI for questioning in the excise policy case.

The protest led to traffic jams in several parts of the national capital today. The AAP’s sit-in led to long queues of vehicles.

Anand Vihar Terminal, ITO Chowk, Mukarba Chowk, Peeragarhi Chowk, Lado Sarai Chowk, Crown Plaza Chowk, Dwarka Mode, Sector 6 and Sector 2 Chowk, Pacific Wala Chowk, Subhash Nagar Chowk, Premwadi Chowk, Ringway Road, New Delhi, Bada Hanuman Mandir, Karol Bagh Chowk, IIT Crossing, ISBT Kashmere Gate, Rajghat and Murga were also present.

Police personnel were also deployed along with traffic police personnel at many places and they are persuading the protesters to move off the roads.
