Attempt of sacrilege at Golden Temple, man caught in inebriated conditions

Amritsar: On the new year eve, sewadars foiled an attempt of sacrilege attempt at the Golden Temple in Amritsar. They pounced a man entering the Golden Temple with a liquor quarter and tobbaco.

The accused has been identified as Sumit, a resident of Kanpur. At present, the accused has been handed over to the police.

The incident took place on Saturday night when around 1.5 lakh devotees had gathered inside the Golden Temple at 12 am in the new year to seek the blessings of the Gurus.

According to the information, sewadars stopped him when he was entering the Golden Temple, sensing something suspicious. When he was frisked, the accused had a liquor quarter in the pocket and tobbaco in his jacket. The sewadars immediately nabbed the accused.

They informed the police about it. The accused was under the influence of alcohol when he was caught. At present, the police have taken accused Sumit into custody and started investigating. The family of the accused and the reasons for doing so are being ascertained.
