Anil Chauhan sworn in as new Chief of Defence Staff

New Delhi: The Government of India has appointed retired Lt Gen Anil Chauhan as the new Chief of Defence Staff (CDS). He will also serve as secretary of the Department of Military Affairs.

The post of CDS was lying vacant since the death of General Bipin Rawat. Chauhan will be the second CDS in the country.

General Anil Chauhan has been the Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Eastern Command

Lt Gen Anil Chauhan has been the Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Eastern Command. He took over the post on September 1, 2019. He has been the DGMO of the Indian Army. Lt Gen Chauhan held various positions in the Army from 1981 to 2021. He has received Param Vishisht Seva Medal, Uttam Yudh Seva Medal, Ati Vishisht Seva Medal, Sena Medal, Vishisht Seva Medal.

General Bipin Rawat died in a helicopter crash last year.

General Vipin Rawat died in a helicopter crash on December 1, 2021 in Coonoor, Tamil Nadu. On December 8, 2021, the news of General Bipin Rawat’s death became official. He was the country’s first Chief of Defense Staff, i.e. CDS. There were 14 army men on board, including General Rawat’s wife Madhulika Rawat. 14 people were killed in this accident.
