Amritpal Singh still on run, search operation underway for fourth consecutive day

Chandigarh: Punjab Police is continuously taking action against Amritpal Singh, a Khalistani supporter and chief of ‘Punjab De Waris’.

Police have arrested many of his supporters, as well as raids have been conducted at many of his hideouts. Today is the fourth day of the Punjab Police’s operation against Amritpal Singh, but he is still out of police custody.

Meanwhile, the Punjab and Haryana High Court will hear the habeas corpus petition filed by Amritpal’s supporter today. In this petition, it was said that Amritpal has been illegally detained by the police, on which the Punjab Police will respond in the court today. Amritpal’s uncle and his closest aide Harjeet Singh will be taken to Dibrugarh by Punjab Police.

So far, the police have arrested over 100 associates of Amritpal Singh, of whom 34 were arrested on Sunday. Several members of the ‘Waris Punjab De’ group have been detained for questioning.

Among those arrested is Daljit Singh Kalsi, who handles Amritpal Singh’s finances.

IG Patiala Mukhwinder Singh had said on Monday that in four districts, we have increased security in Barnala, Patiala, Sangrur, Malerkotla. Paramilitary and Punjab Police personnel have been deployed in these districts and flag marches are also being conducted.

The blockade has been extended in Punjab due to the allocation of central agencies and the law and order situation in Punjab is under control.
