After US and India, UK planning to impose Covid restrictions on arrivals from China

New Delhi: The UK is planning to impose Covid-19 restrictions on passengers coming from China. According to the report, coronavirus testing can also be made mandatory in these restrictions.

Officials from the Ministry of Transport, Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of Health and Social Welfare are expected to decide on Thursday that covid restrictions should be imposed in the UK for people coming from China on the lines of the US and Italy, media reports said.

The United States has made coronavirus testing mandatory for those coming from China on Wednesday. At the same time, Italy has ordered COVID-19 antigen swabs and virus sequencing.

In India, the government has made RT-PCR tests mandatory for all passengers coming from six countries including China.

According to official sources, the next 40 days are crucial as Covid-19 cases in India may increase rapidly in January. This has been said by referring to the previous method of spreading the epidemic.

“Earlier it was found that a new wave of the pandemic had hit India 30-35 days after East Asia was hit by COVID-19… It has been a trend.”

Health Ministry sources, however, said the severity of the infection is low. Even if there is a new wave of Covid, the rate of deaths and hospitalization of infected people will be very low. In the last two days, 6,000 international travellers who arrived in India were tested for COVID-19, of which 39 tested positive, the sources said.

The government has made random COVID testing mandatory for two per cent of passengers arriving on every international flight from Saturday.
