Colombo: Ranil Wickremesinghe will now be the new President of Sri Lanka. In the postal ballot, 134 MPs voted in his favour. Ranil Wickremesinghe is currently holding the charge of acting president. Dullas Alhapperuma got 82 votes while only 3 MPs voted in favour of Anura Kumara Dissanayake.
After the victory in the presidential election, Ranil Wickremesinghe said that the country is in a state of great trouble. He said there’s a big challenge ahead.
Significantly, people took to the streets after the government’s failure to deal with the worst economic crisis ever in Sri Lanka and Gotabaya Rajapaksa resigned from the presidency amidst political turmoil and an atmosphere of chaos in the country.
