Vigilance summoned former minister Sharanjit Dhillon and former CS Sarvesh Kaushal in irrigation scam

Chandigarh: In a major action in the irrigation scam of Rs 1200 crore, the vigilance officials today summoned former minister and Akali leader Sharanjit Dhillon and former Punjab chief secretary Sarvesh Kaushal. Sharanjit Singh Dhillon and Janmeja Singh Sekhon, who were irrigation ministers in the Akali government between 2007-2012 and 2012-2017, are accused in this scam.

Along with Dhillon and Sekhon, former Punjab chief secretary Sarvesh Kaushal, former special chief secretary KBS Sidhu’s role were also investigated. A lookout notice has been issued against Former secretary KS Pannu in this case, officials said. These people are accused of taking bribe from a contractor and giving work worth Rs 1200 crore in the irrigation department.

Contractor Gurinder Singh, the main accused in the case, had filed an affidavit stating that three former IAS officers, two former ministers and their personal secretary were also involved in the irrigation scam. These statements were recorded by the Vigilance Bureau in August 2017.

According to department sources, Sharanjit Singh Dhillon and IAS Sarvesh Kaushal will be questioned today. Former officers and leaders whose names will come up will also be included in the investigation, officials said.
