New Delhi: In the first auction of the Women’s Premier League (WPL), 5 franchises had a total of Rs 60 crore in auction purses. Each franchise had a limit of spending 12-12 crores. It was also mandatory for each of these franchises to spend 9-9 crores. However, there was such a competition in the auction that far from 9 crores, the entire fund of some franchises was empty.
Mumbai Indians and UP Warriors spent their entire 12-12 crores. These two teams were such that they could not even choose 18-18 players in their squad. While Mumbai Indians bought 17 players, UP Warriors included 16 players in the squad. In this auction, each franchise had a limit of selecting a minimum of 15 and a maximum of 18 players.
Delhi Capitals, Royal Challengers Bangalore and Gujarat Giants completed 18 players in their respective squads. Delhi Capitals has the most funds left. This franchise has 35 lakhs left.
At the same time, Royal Challengers Bangalore’s auction fund was 10 lakh and Gujarat Giants had 5 lakh left. In this way, out of the total amount of Rs 60 crores available, Rs 50 lakh were saved. 87 players were bought for Rs 59.50 crore.
