World’s longest Covid mask mandate scrapped in Hong Kong after 1,000 days

New Delhi: In Hong Kong, wearing a Covid mask was mandatory until now. This was the world’s longest Covid ban on the mandatory wearing of masks. The requirement of face masks will now end in Hong Kong from March 1.

Nearly 1000 days after the start of the Corona epidemic, people of Hong Kong will finally be able to get out of the house without masks from Wednesday.

Face coverings will no longer be required while travelling indoors, outdoors or in public transport. The requirement of masks everywhere in the world was abolished long ago, but in Hong Kong these rules were still in force.

The mandatory wear masks in Hong Kong has been scrapped at a time when the government is trying to woo tourists and foreign guests to revive the recession-hit economy.

“By removing the need for masking, we are largely resuming normalcy,” city chief executive John Lee said at a press conference on Tuesday morning. It will be very beneficial for economic development.”
