UK Sikh MP beefs up security after receiving threat email

London: Britain’s first female Sikh MP Preet Kaur Gill has said she has been forced to step up her security after receiving a threatening email. Gill, 50, is an opposition Labour MP from Birmingham, Edgbaston.

She said that she is worried for the safety of her family as she is busy with her routine work as an MP.

“It is a matter of concern as I am with my daughters in the constituency all the time. My family lives there. This threat has made me worried. As a woman, when you put yourself ahead and you want to fight injustice, you are confronted with people who think it is okay to say such things to you. I can’t believe this man used his workplace email to make the threat.”

Gill said she has informed West Midlands Police about the threat and that she uses a bodyguard to protect herself.
