Twin towers demolition: People with respiratory distress advised to stay away from area

New Delhi: Doctors have asked people living in nearby areas to take care of their health as two towers of supertech, about 100 metres high, were demolished. Doctors have also asked people suffering from respiratory ailments to stay away from the area for a few days if possible. While the towers were dropped, there was a plume of dust in the sky, due to which people may have to face trouble.

The dust particles could be 5 microns or less and if there is no strong wind and rain, they can remain in the air for a few days, doctors said. He said that due to dust, there can be itching on the eyes, ears and skin.

Along with this, coughing, sneezing, difficulty in breathing, infection in the lungs and asthma attacks can occur. Dr Jugal Kishore of Safdarjung Hospital said those suffering from respiratory ailments should stay away from the affected area for at least 48 hours. He has also advised people in nearby areas not to exercise for a few days.

Dr Yudhvir Singh, assistant professor at AIIMS, said people should use N-95 masks as a precautionary measure and keep medicines with them. Dr Dipankar Saha, former head of the Central Pollution Control Board’s air lab, said noida authorities should monitor the level of air pollution till the debris is cleared.
