Washington: Thousands of Indian IT experts are now struggling to find new jobs in the US due to being laid off by companies like Google, Microsoft and Amazon.
In order to stay in the country, they want employment as soon as possible so that they do not have to leave the country due to the expiry of the fixed period of work visa.
According to the a media report, nearly 200,000 IT workers have lost their jobs since November last year.
Of these, 30 to 40 per cent are said to be Indian IT professionals, a large number of whom are individuals with H-1B and L-1 visas.
An Indian woman working with Amazon arrived in the US three months ago and has now been told that March 20 will be her last working day.
H-1B visa workers will have to find a new job within 60 days, otherwise they will be forced to return to India.
The Global India Technology Professionals Association and the Foundation for India and Indian Diaspora Studies have launched efforts to employ IT experts.
Indians in tension have formed various WhatsApp groups to find a solution to their problem. The troubles of Indian IT experts were compounded when Google decided to stop processing green cards.
Now that they have forwarded thousands of employees they are not seeking foreign IT experts as permanent residents. Many other companies are also expected to flow google’s way.
