Supreme Court strictly directs states to give compensation to kin of Covid-19 victims without wasting any time

New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Monday directed all states and Union Territories to ensure payment of compensation to the next of kin of covid-19 dead without wasting any time.

A bench of Justices M R Shah and B V Nagarathn said if there is any complaint regarding non-payment of compensation to a claimant or rejection of his claim, he can approach the grievance redressal committee concerned.

The bench also directed the grievance redressal committee to take a decision on the applicants’ application within four weeks. On a plea alleging that the Andhra Pradesh government has been accused of transferring funds from the state disaster response force (SDRF) account to individual deposit accounts, the bench directed that the concerned amount be transferred to the SDRF account within two days.

Compensation should be paid immediately.

“We conclude the hearing on the petition by directing all the states to ensure payment of compensation to the eligible persons without delay under our earlier order,” the bench said. If a claimant has any complaint, he can approach the concerned Grievance Redressal Committee.
