SpiceJet grounds two pilots for having gujiya, beverages in flight cockpit on Holi

New Delhi: SpiceJet has grounded two of its pilots for eating gujiya and beverages on critical console during a on Holi.

SpiceJet officials say that the pilots had endangered flight safety by doing so. The incident took place on a SpiceJet flight from Delhi to Guwahati on the day of Holi (March 8, 2023). Both pilots were removed from the roster and the matter is under investigation.

A SpiceJet spokesperson said the airline has a strict policy on food inside the cockpit. This has to be followed by all flight crew. Appropriate disciplinary action will be taken after completion of the inquiry, he said.

Until then, both have been off-rostered. If the glass placed on the console was slightly peeled, it could have affected the safety of the aircraft.

At the time when both pilots were enjoying coffee-gujiya, the plane was flying at an altitude of 37, 000 feet. After the photo went viral, the Director General Civil Aviation (DGCA) directed the airline to identify these pilots and take immediate action.
