New Delhi: The court has formally cleared the Indian actress Shilpa Shetty of obscenity charges dating from when Hollywood star Richard Gere publicly kissed her on the cheek 15 years ago.
Gere at an AIDS awareness event had kissed her and it triggered a firestorm, and Hindu right-wing groups burnt effigies of both the celebrities to demanding action against them for hurting their sentiments.
During an event, Gere hel Shilpa in his arms and kissed her nonstop, causing a uproar in India.
However, court gave Shetty a clean chit citing that it seems that the Shetty is the victim of the alleged act of Gere.) Not a single element of any of the alleged offence is being satisfied in the complaint,” the judge Magistrate Ketaki Chavan observed.
