Russian attacks cripples sports in Ukraine, Zelensky says 89 athletes and coaches killed in attack

Kiev: The war between the Russia and Ukraine continues and Russia has fired missiles into northern and southern areas in the latest attacks on Ukraine. Russian attacks damaged railway tracks and power lines in the northern city of Kharkiv.

Amid the Russian attacks, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky held a crucial meeting between International Olympic Committee President Thomas Bach over the Games in Ukraine.

The meeting took stock of the state of the Games in Ukraine amid the devastation in Ukraine. Ukrainian President Zelensky, along with the president of the International Olympic Association, said in Batac that 89 Ukrainian athletes and coaches had been killed in Russian attacks since February, while the Russian military had taken 13 athletes hostage.

“Many Ukrainian athletes went to the battlefield with Ukrainian troops to defend the country,” Zelensky said, adding that “89 Ukrainian athletes and coaches have been killed in the fight with Russia, while 13 have been captured and taken hostage by the Russian military.”
