Punjab govt objects to Chandigarh SSP filling up from Haryana cadre

Chandigarh: The Punjab government has objected to the appointment of a Haryana cadre officer as ssp of Chandigarh in place of Kuldeep Chahal.

Chahal was sent back by the Chandigarh administration last night on the orders of UT Administrator Banwari Lal Purohit ten months before the end of his tenure. The UT Administrator is also the Governor of Punjab.

In a letter to the Governor–UT Administrator, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann said, “As you are aware, the post of Senior Superintendent of Police, UT Chandigarh is traditionally filled up by an IPS officer of Punjab cadre and IAS of Haryana cadre is posted as DC, Chandigarh. I am surprised to know that Kuldeep Singh Chahal has been prematurely sent back to Punjab and the charge of this post has been given to an IPS officer of Haryana cadre, which is unjustified. ’
