Punjab government orders to Challan, impound vehicles bearing fancy numbers of old series

Chandigarh: Punjab Government on Thursday decided to issue challans besides impounding to those vehicles violating criteria of Registration Mark State Code P.B. and other conditions of the mark. This order will be applicable on all vehicles registered with registration authority after 12-06-1989. The Transport Department has also issued orders to immediately block these numbers on VAHAN website. These fancy numbers allotted in violation of act were revoked on 30-12-2020 describing these numbers illegal.

Giving details about these decisions, Punjab Transport Minister Laljeet Singh Bhullar said that those having such fancy numbers could get the new fancy numbers as per the notification of the State Government issued on 10-12-2020 under rule 42-A of Punjab Motor Vehicle Act. He said those desirous of new fancy numbers should fulfil clause 39, 41 (6) and 217 (D) of MVA. The Minister also directed the Regional Transport Authorities to lay special nakas so that these numbers could be checked and impound such vehicles flouting stipulated norms.
