Punjab government distributes Rs 11.76 lakh to acid attack survivals

Chandigarh: The government of Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has distributed 11.76 lakh rupees to women who have been disabled due to acid attacks, till the month of September.

Giving more information in this regard, the Minister of Social Security, Women and Child Development Department, Dr. Baljit Kaur said that the government is committed to the welfare of people from all walks of life. The aim of this scheme by the government is to provide monthly financial assistance to women who have been disabled due to acid attack, so that the lives of the affected women can be made easier.

Kaur said that under this scheme women with 40% or more disability (benchmark disability) who are suffering from acidosis are given 8,000 rupees per month to rehabilitate them and make them self-reliant. These women should be residents of Punjab state. Apart from this, a copy of the FIR/complaint should be registered by the aggrieved woman.

The Cabinet Minister said that a provision of Rs.24.00 lakhs has been made during the current financial year for the acid victims, out of which financial assistance of Rs.11.76 lakhs has been paid to 21 beneficiaries till September 2022. She said that the Acid Attack Victim Scheme is a 100% state sponsored scheme.
