Power crisis worsens in Punjab: Another unit shuts down

Chandigarh: The power generation from this plant has come down to only 166 MW due to the closure of unit no. 3 of government Guru Hargobind Thermal Plant with a power generation capacity of 920 MW today. Units 1 and 2 of this 4 unit thermal plant have been closed yesterday and unit no. 3 has to be closed today due to some technical snag.

Now only unit number 4 of this thermal plant is generating electricity. On the other hand, due to non-disposal of ash in the ESP of unit no. 3 of thermal plant Rupnagar, the unit could not be commissioned even on Sunday and unit no. 6 is being operated at very low capacity.

As per the load dispatch centre of Powercom, the thermal plant was generating 188 MW from unit no. 4 of Rupnagar, 179 from no. 5 and 167 MW from unit no. 6. Out of the private thermal plants, both the 1400 MW capacity units of Rajpura Thermal Plant are generating 1314 MW of power, 225 MW of power was being generated through unit no. 2 of Goindwal Sahib.
