Brisbane: Most Australians seeking international travel are facing high airfares, limited seats and frequent cancellations of flights following border restrictions imposed by the Covid-19 pandemic.
Airlines and aviation experts are warning that there is unlikely to be any cut in ticket prices in the near future. They attributed this to the ever-increasing demand after the pandemic.
The Australian Competitions and Consumer Commission in its quarterly report has admitted that domestic airfares have increased by 56 percent between April and August this year. Professor Greg Bamber, an aviation expert at Monash University, says airlines need to improve a lot in terms of cancellation of bookings.
He termed the cancellation of the flight by the leading ‘Quantus’ airline on the spot as an unfortunate incident about the credibility of the customers. Airlines, on the other hand, believe that they are committed to provide better services despite the increasing work pressure.
A Virgin Australia spokesperson said that despite the burdens such as rising oil prices, rising inflation and rising demand, airlines aim to provide better services to customers. He expressed hope that in case of domestic flights, the capacity will return to pre-Covid level between December and January.
