North Korea fires at least 10 missiles, South Korea issues warning to its citizens

New Delhi: North Korea fired at least 10 missiles of different types on Wednesday. South Korea said that “for the first time” a ballistic missile fired by North Korea came south of the disputed maritime border and close to South Korea’s territorial waters.

Kang Xin-chul, director staff of joint chiefs’ operations, told reporters: “The North Korean missile launch is very unusual and unacceptable. Because it first dropped close to South Korean territorial waters south of the Northern Border Line”.

The Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) said, “Had issued an air strike warning on ullungdo island which was shown on national television and a warning was issued for residents. The military said a Pyongyang missile had landed in international waters south of the northern border line, the disputed maritime boundary between the two countries.

South Korean President Yun Suk-yeol also convened a meeting of the National Security Council regarding the launch. Analysts described North Korea’s action as one of the most “aggressive and threatening”.
