Missing Texas child feared dead, US police seeks extradition of parents from India

Washington: A six-year-old boy, who had been missing for several months in Texas, is feared dead. His parents have fled to India and a case has been registered against them for leaving the child destitute and endangering his life, police said.

Noel Rodriguez-Alvarez, who has special needs, was last seen in November. Alvarez was seen shortly after her twin sisters were born in October last year.

Everman Police Chief Craig Spencer said Thursday that the search for the missing boy had been converted into a murder investigation and efforts were being made to recover the child’s body.

“Police have issued arrest warrants against Noel’s mother Cindy Rodriguez Singh and Arshdeep Singh for leaving their child destitute and endangering his life,” Spencer said at a press conference.

“We want these fugitive parents to be arrested and extradited to the United States so that we can learn from them about Noel’s disappearance,” he said.

Noel Cindy, 37, had one of ten children. Her three siblings live with their grandparents, while Noel and the others lived with their mother Cindy in a slum in an area of Everman. Noela’s Indian-origin stepfather Arshdeep also lived in the slum. Everman Police said the search for Noel began after the Texas Department of Family Services asked for a welfare check in Everman on March 20.

“We are working with our federal partners and they are connected with us. They are working shoulder to shoulder in the case. We will update as soon as we get more information.”
