Mayhem in Amritsar as Amritpal Singh’s supporters clash with police

Chandigarh: The supporters of Toofan Singh, a close aide of pro-Khalistan outfit ‘Waris Punjab De’ chief Amritpal Singh, took to the streets to protest against his arrest in Ajnala on Thursday.

Thousands of disgruntled people have surrounded the police station in Amritsar with guns, swords and sticks clashed with security forces. They forcibly entered the police station premises after breaking the barricades and situation is tensed at the spot.

Yesterday, Amritpal had asked his supporters to reach Ajnala at 11 am on Thursday. After this, a massive gathering of supporters reached there. Sensing the seriousness of the situation, a heavy force deployed there and they started detaining the protesting people.

Amritpal has also reached Ajnala police station after receiving information about the ruckus. After coming here, he had a meeting with SSP Satinder Singh. After this, the police have been given an hour to release Toofan Singh.

A case registered against 30 people

A case has been registered against 30 people, including Amritpal, his associate Toofan Singh, at Ajnala police station in Amritsar on charges of beating a youth after kidnapping him for allegedly making derogatory comments on social media against Amritpal.

In this case, the police arrested Toofan Singh. This angered Amritpal, who had announced protest against his arrest on Thursday.
