India wins its 1,000th ODI with 22 overs left v West Indies

AHMEDABAD: Indian Cricket team won its 1,000th one-day international by defeating West Indies with six-wicket win and 22 overs to spare on Sunday.

India finished on 178-4 in only 28 overs — with 132 balls remaining — to take a 1-0 lead in the three-match series.

A memorable 1000th ODI game for India as they beat West Indies by 6 wickets and take a 1-0 lead in the ODI series. After opting to bowl first, spin duo Yuzvendra Chahal and Washington Sundar did most of the damage with the ball, scalping 7-wickets between them to restrict West Indies to 176. Rohit Sharma top scored in the chase with 60, before debutant Deepak Hooda and Suryakumar Yadav’s unbeaten half-century stand guided the hosts to victory.

Rohit Sharma, Captain said, “We want to keep getting better as a team it was a great effort from everyone. We ticked all the boxes. I’m open to a lot of things if we need to change. The goal is we should be able to achieve whatever the team wants. But, honestly, I don’t think we need to change a whole lot. All I will ask of the players is to challenge yourself. I have been out for a while, haven’t played for two months but I was back home hitting the balls. I knew there was a long season ahead. Had a good net session here and I was confident going into this game. Can take a lot of positives from today, the pitch had something in it. There was softness early on and in this particular game, the toss became important. I honestly want to take it away from the play, but if you win the toss, you take advantage of it.”
