House Panel refers former US President Trump for criminal prosecution

Washington: Former President Donald Trump has been accused for last year’s Capitol Hill violence in the US. The committee investigating the matter has recommended that Trump be prosecuted. If that happens, Trump’s plans to contest the 2024 election could suffer a setback.

“During the course of the investigation, the committee found significant evidence that suggests that President Donald Trump committed that act with the intent to disrupt the peaceful transition of power under our Constitution,” the committee said.

Following this, Trump has described the whole matter as fake and said that there is a conspiracy against him.

“The committee set up to investigate the January 6 case has already released its false and biased report. In this case, there have been attempts to prosecute me, there have been attempts to impeach me twice.”

Trump called the whole case a conspiracy

He said, “I’ve always won, and again in the end I’ll win. This is a conspiracy to stop me from contesting the presidential election in 2024. It’s a partisan attempt to sideline me and the Republican Party.”
