High Court bans illegal mining in Border areas in Punjab

Chandigarh: The Punjab and Haryana High Court has continued its stay on mining in Pathankot and Gurdaspur districts of Punjab. The matter was heard in the High Court today.

The government sought more time from the High Court for a concrete reply in the matter. On this, the High Court has continued the stay imposed on mining

Earlier, the High Court had ordered the Punjab government to file a fresh concrete reply in the case. Now the High Court has put a complete ban mining till further orders. The Punjab government filed a petition in the High Court to lift the stay on mining in the border area of Punjab, saying that it would work with the Army in the matter.

During the last hearing, the High Court had said that the government had not filed any reply on the matter to explain what was being done to stop illegal mining. The counsel for the Punjab government had said that a meeting would be held to stop illegal mining. The Chief Secretary had also said to visit the mining site.
