United Nations: The United Nations Security Council (UNSC) has put the Deputy Chief of Pakistan-based terror outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba Abdul Rehman Makki on the blacklist of global terrorists.
The UN Security Council’s Al-Qaeda Sanctions Committee on Monday added Makki’s name to its sanctions list. There is a provision to confiscate the property of those included in this list, impose travel and arms restrictions on them.
India and the US have already listed Makki as a terrorist under their domestic laws. He has been involved in raising funds, recruiting and radicalising youth for violence and planning attacks in India, especially in Jammu and Kashmir.
In June last year, China had blocked the joint proposal of India and the US to declare Makki a global terrorist under the 1267 Al-Qaeda Sanctions Committee of the UN Security Council at the last moment.
China, as usual, has put hurdles in the list of known terrorists, especially from Pakistan. It had repeatedly blocked proposals to designate Pakistan-based and UN-proscribed terror unit Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) chief Maulana Masood Azhar.
