Grenade at Army vehicle in Jammu-Poonch highway, 5 soldiers killed

New Delhi: An Army vehicle caught fire on the Poonch-Jammu highway on Thursday. The army has described it as a terrorist attack.

Five Army personnel were killed when an Indian Army truck caught fire in Poonch district. The incident took place on the highway in Bhata Dhurian area.

Army Chief General Manoj Pandey has briefed Defense Minister Rajnath Singh about this incident.

“Unidentified militants opened fire on an Army vehicle moving between Bhimber Gali and Poonch in Rajouri sector of Jammu and Kashmir,” the Army said.

“Troops of the Rashtriya Rifles unit deployed for counter terrorist operations in the area lost their lives in the incident. Another critically injured soldier was immediately rushed to the Army hospital in Rajouri and is undergoing treatment. The search operation is underway,” he said, adding that senior Army officials are at the spot to carry out investigations. It is raining heavily in the mountainous area where the incident took place.
