Former Councillor Sushil Kalia suicide case: several BJP leaders, including KD Bhandari booked

Jalandhar: Police on Monday registered a case on charges od abetment to suicide against several BJP leaders including former Punjab minister on basis of the suicide note recovered from deceased former Congress councillor Sushil Kalia.

Disgruntled over no action for the last two days, Congress leaders and workers were sitting around the police station protesting against the police for not taking action.

Meanwhile, on Monday, a case has been registered against dozens of people BJP leaders, including former BJP Minister KD Bhandari and Rajkumar Sharma, Anju Sharma, Akshay Sharma, on the basis of the suicide note, ADCP 1 Balwinder Singh said.

Sushil Kalia alias Vicky, a former Congress councillor from Ward-64, close to Congress MLA Bawa Henry, committed suicide on Saturday evening by consuming poisonous substance.

A suicide note was recovered from the deceased, in which many prominent people including former BJP MLA KD Bhandari were blamed.

He also alleged that Rs 15 lakh was collected in the name of judges and police officials in lieu of a case of forgery registered against him and he was also being harassed.

A corruption case was registered last year

Congress councillor Sushil alias Vicky Kalia, his son Anshuman and relatives were booked by the police last year for corruption. Sushil Kalia and his family members were accused of misusing MLA funds.

Sushil Kalia had taken bail from the Punjab and Haryana High Court in the case, but his son did not get bail from the High Court. After this, the bail matter reached the Supreme Court, but there too, he didn’t get any relief.
