Drive against tax evasion, Punjab Transport department’s revenue doubled

Chandigarh: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann led state government’s drive against tax defaulters, illegal activities and bus operators sans permits borne fruit as the transport department registered around double revenue collection in the month of May.

Punjab Transport department had registered Rs.91.69 crore revenue during May 2021 from fees, compounding fees, two types of cess and motor vehicle tax, while the revenue has been doubled from these collections up till May 31, 2022, which showed an increase of 94 per cent with Rs.178 crore.

Similarly, the Pepsu Road Transport Corporation (P.R.T.C.) has also registered almost double revenue this year due to the concerted efforts of the state government to increase the revenue of the department. The corporation has collected Rs.42.05 crore in May this year against Rs.23.28 crore of corresponding period of previous year.

Likewise, the Punjab Roadways/PUNBUS has also registered more than double in its revenue during this period. Revenue collection of Punjab Roadways/PUNBUS was recorded Rs.26.63 crore during May 2021, which has increased to Rs.57.03 crore during May 2022, which becomes around 119 per cent more than the total income from May 2021.

The PRTC and Punjab Roadways/PUNBUS had provided free travel facility to women at a cost of Rs.9.49 crore and Rs.10.09 crore in May 2021 against Rs.29.40 crore and Rs.22.90 crore in May 2022, respectively.
