Democratic party retains majority in US Senate, Republicans’ hopes shattered

Washington: The ruling Democratic Party in the US will retain a majority in the Senate as two of its candidates are projected to win against republican candidates.

In Nevada, Senator Katherine Cortez Masto is expected to defeat her Republican rival Adam Leggett, who was backed by former President Donald Trump, while in Arizona Senator Mark Kelly is on course to defeat Republican candidate Black Masters.

With these results, the Democratic Party will be left with 50 seats in the 100-member Senate, while the Republican Party currently has 49 seats.

Georgia’s election results are yet to come. There are 100 seats in the US Senate, out of which the Democratic and Republican parties had 50 members each.
