China opposes holding G-20 meeting in Jammu and Kashmir

Beijing: China today protested against reports about India’s plans to hold next year’s meeting of G-20 leaders in Jammu and Kashmir and echoed the tone of its closest ally Pakistan, saying the parties concerned should avoid giving a political colour to the issue.

“We have taken note of the information in this regard,” Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian said in response to a question during a media conference here today.

He said, “China’s stand on Kashmir is firm and very clear. This is a pre-existing issue between India and Pakistan. The issue should be resolved in accordance with the bilateral agreement on the relevant UN resolutions. ’

“The parties concerned should avoid making things difficult with a unilateral step,” Lijian said. We have to resolve disputes through dialogue and dialogue and work together to maintain peace and stability. He said, “We call upon the parties concerned to pay attention to the emergence of the economy and make a positive contribution to the improvement of global economic governance and avoid giving political colour to this issue. ’

On the question of China’s participation in the G-20 group meeting, he said, “Whether we will attend the meeting or not will be discussed. When asked about India’s objection to the construction of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor in the disputed area of Maqbooza Kashmir, he said, “The two cases are completely different. China has undertaken projects to develop Pakistan’s economy and improve the standard of living of its people there. ’

iHe said this does not mean that his outlook towards Kashmir has changed. It may be recalled that pakistan had opposed the meeting of the G-20 group in Jammu and Kashmir on June 25.
