Case registered against ex-MLA Jalalpur in land scam; Lookout notice issued

Chandigarh: The Punjab vigilance has cracked down on Madan Lal Jalalpura, former MLA from Ghanaur in Patiala assembly constituency. Jalalpura has been named in the land scam of five villages under Shambhu block.

Meanwhile, it has also been learnt that former MLA Madan Lal Jalalpur has gone underground since his name cropped up in the land scam and is trying to flee abroad to evade arrest. In view of this, vigilance has issued a lookout notice in the name of Jalalpur.

1104 acres of land was acquired for the Amritsar-Kolkata corridor in five villages under Shambhu block Aakdi, Sehra, Sehri, Takhtumajra and Pambaran. Rs 205 crore was paid for this land.

Apart from this, those who had taken this land from panchayats on a bribe were paid a separate payment of Rs 97.8 crore.

The Punjab Vigilance Bureau had registered a case at the Range Office in Patiala on May 26 last year in connection with the land scam.

In this case, the vigilance had named 34 people, including officers and employees of government and non-government organizations. Vigilance has registered a case against 34 people as well as 10 firms.
