Bomb scare at Jalandhar railway station, premises sealed

 

Jalandhar: Following the recovery of a suspicious abandoned bag at the railway station in Jalandhar, a massive search operation has been launched by the authorities here on Thursday.

The police have also sealed the railway station and the bomb squad team has been called on the spot to inspect the bag.

Punjab police have sounded a red alert in the state following recovery of a Tiffin Box fabricated into an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) or Tiffin Bomb along with five hand grenades and 100 rounds of 9mm pistol recovered from village Daleke, Lopoke in Amritsar on Monday.

Jalandhar police, however, later informed that it was just a mock drill to ensure foolproof security cover in the city ahead of the Independence Day event on August 15.

Meanwhile, Police have also tightened the security and launched intensive checking drives at all prominent places to Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh on Tuesday urged Union home minister Amit Shah to urgently provide 25 companies of central armed police forces (CAPF) and anti-drone gadgets for the Border Security Force (BSF) for protection against Pakistan-backed terror outfits amid an escalating threat to the state’s security from across the border.
